The roots of psychotherapy lie in the belief that talking is, in itself, healing. Hence, we employ the term “the talking cure.” During regular dialogue, I may offer interpretation or guidance. I may challenge assumptions. In this way, change is gradually achieved–change in your feelings, thoughts, behaviors and, ultimately, outcomes.
Compared to some of the coping mechanisms that many of us unsuccessfully employ – therapy is an investment that can last a lifetime. Stress-filled relationships, emotional eating, substance abuse, overspending–all of these are unhealthy coping mechanisms that may make you feel better for a while. But they don’t address the root of your problems or provide you with constructive ways of dealing with life’s inevitable hurdles. Psychotherapy can.
The benefits that I may be able to help you achieve include healthier, more satisfying relationships, increased productivity at work, better self-image and improved understanding of yourself.
